Silverware bird assemblages by Matt Wilson

Matt Wilson bird assemblage

There’s an aviary in every silverware drawer. Robins, kingfishers, owls, jays, blackbirds… It just takes eyes like those of South Carolina-based craftsman Matt Wilson to help distill them from imagination.

Matt spends his time sifting through discarded flatware that can be re-purposed into beaks, wings, feathers, and more in his detailed creations. Wilson says it has taken him years to collect his materials and that he is meticulous in his selection and placement.

Driving his work is a deep appreciation for the environment and conservation. In his own words,

“The upcycled work I create is a testimony to the belief of conserving and appreciating our resources, so that the environment in which we live will contine (sic) to be an environment in which we desire to live. My goal as an artist is to make artwork unlike art people have seen, while at the same time recognizable in the identity of everyday materials.”

You can see some of Matt’s work below and you’ll find even more on his Etsy shop or Instagram.
